Deschutes Jasper Slabs

Deschutes Jasper comes from the southern side of the Columbia River Gorge near The Dalles, not far from the Biggs deposit. Some authorities can distinguish the two at a glance and I can identify the more obvious types. However each of these locations has produced material with a variety of looks. When in doubt I ask Hans Gamma who is the world’s greatest authority on U.S. Jaspers and he is never at a loss.
