Bruneau Jasper Slabs
Bruneau thundereggs are found in a deep canyon entered by a precipitous road near Filer, Idaho. The eggs are obtained by blasting the very hard rhyolite of the walls and it is very dangerous work. This famous location, after decades of mining, is being closed and the area is being designated as a wilderness study area. A few grandfathered claims may still produce, but little mining has been done in recent years due to the exhaustion of the deposit, and the men who have mined it, understandably. The beautiful pair whose item ID is UBRUN 127 was mined by Gene Anthis and I got them from his better half, Fran Krogstadt, who cut them.
