Baker Ranch Thundereggs Specimens
Outside the town of Deming, New Mexico, is the Baker Ranch. It is one of the two well known U.S. deposits that have produced truly outstanding thundereggs and lots of them. The other is of course the Priday Plume bed near Madras, Oregon. It has been decades since the Priday Plume bed was worked out but the Baker Ranch mine is still in operation. This is what makes collecting Baker Eggs now so exciting. There are many collectors who are actively building their Baker Egg collection while the opportunity is still here and there are still specimens turning up in the new production that seem to me to be as good as any from the past. Whenever we get a good one you will find it here. If you ever get a chance to go to Deming, be sure to visit the Mimbres Museum in the heart of town. There you can see the collection of mine owner and Baker Egg dealer, Robert "Paul" Coburn, a world class little agate collection! The Rockhound Roundup in March is a wonderful old fashioned rockhound gathering with good field trips to boot.
